EYFS, Planning and Development

The Early Years Foundation Stage came into force in September 2008.  This was a framework for providing learning, development and care for children from birth to five years.  The EYFS emphasises the right of children and their families to be included and welcomed into all settings.  It also requires practitioners to promote positive attitudes to diversity and difference and to meet the individual needs of all children whatever their background, needs, or abilities. 

The four principles of EYFS are:

  1. A unique child - every child is a competent learner from birth, who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
     
  2. Positive relations - children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person.
     
  3. Enabling environments - the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children's development and learning.

  4. Learning and development - children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates, and all areas of learning and development are equally important and interconnected.

Each child at Cherubs is allocated a Key Person when they start the nursery and it is this person's responsibility to keep a 'development file' which contains detailed information and photographs of the child's journey with us.

The key person builds the development file by observing and evaluating each child to gain information and implement future planning, which in turn ensures that the curriculum is meeting the needs of your child.  Each observation and assessment made on your child will be recorded and published via your ParentZone login, for you to see at any time.

Your child's development file will be given to you when they leave and we hope it will remind you in the future of your child's time at Cherubs.
